How we can help

Sports injury treatment for every level of athlete

You do not need to be an elite athlete to benefit from sports physiotherapy. We help people return to club sport, running, gym training, dance, court sports and the everyday movement that keeps them active.

  • Ankle sprains and joint injuries
  • Muscle strains and tears
  • Tendon and overuse injuries
  • Knee, hip, shoulder and back pain
  • Running-related pain and injuries
  • Recurring injuries or reduced confidence
  • Post-operative sports rehabilitation
  • Strength and conditioning after injury
  • Return to training and competition planning
  • Concussion rehabilitation alongside medical care

Your physiotherapist will let you know whether physiotherapy is appropriate and coordinate with your GP, specialist, coach or other health professionals when that would support your recovery.

The Cadence approach

A plan that connects treatment with performance

Sports rehabilitation is not simply waiting for pain to disappear. We work with you to restore movement, rebuild physical capacity and prepare for the specific speed, strength, change of direction or endurance your sport requires.

01

Understand the injury

We listen to how the injury happened, assess relevant movement and strength, and explain what may be contributing to it.

02

Settle symptoms

Hands-on treatment, taping, activity modification and early exercise may be used where appropriate to help you move forward.

03

Rebuild capacity

Your program progresses strength, mobility, control and tolerance to the loads you meet in training and competition.

04

Prepare for your sport

Sport-specific drills and appropriate testing help guide a gradual return to training, play and performance.

Your return-to-sport pathway

Know what you are working towards at every stage

1

Assess your starting point

We consider your injury, symptoms, movement, strength, training history and the demands of your sport.

2

Build a progressive rehabilitation plan

Your program develops in stages, with exercise and training loads adjusted according to your progress and response.

3

Reintroduce sport-specific demands

We progressively prepare you for relevant running, jumping, landing, lifting, contact or change-of-direction tasks.

4

Plan your return together

We use your symptoms, function and appropriate testing to guide the next step, including medical clearance where required.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Sports Physiotherapy

Do I need to be an elite athlete to see a sports physiotherapist?

No. Sports Physiotherapy can help anyone whose goal is to return to running, gym training, dance, club sport, social competition or another active pursuit. Your plan is matched to your current level and goals.

How soon after a sports injury should I book?

You can book an assessment soon after an injury to better understand what has happened and what to do next. If you suspect a fracture or dislocation, have a serious head or neck injury, or have emergency symptoms, seek urgent medical care.

Can a sports physio help me know when I am ready to return?

Your physiotherapist can progressively assess symptoms, movement, strength, sport-specific capacity and training tolerance to guide your return. Some injuries and sporting codes also require clearance from a medical practitioner.

What should I bring to my sports physio appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing and bring relevant footwear, braces, scan or specialist reports, and details of your training or competition schedule if available. These can help us understand the demands you are returning to.

Can Sports Physiotherapy help with recurring or overuse injuries?

Yes. Your physiotherapist can assess factors such as training load, strength, mobility, technique and recovery, then build a plan to improve capacity and reduce the likelihood of the same problem returning.

Can Cadence help after a suspected concussion?

Athletes with suspected concussion should be removed from sport and medically assessed, with no same-day return to play. Where appropriate, a Cadence physiotherapist can support graded rehabilitation and return-to-sport planning alongside your medical care.

Do I need a referral to book Sports Physiotherapy?

No referral is required for a private Sports Physiotherapy appointment. A referral may be required for Medicare, DVA, workers compensation or some third-party pathways.
