HYROX Training in Adelaide: How Physio Coaching Helped Liam Go All In
Training for HYROX: A Story of Trust, Consistency and Going All In
HYROX is growing fast in Adelaide, attracting athletes who are motivated, disciplined and hungry to push their limits. This is the story of how one athlete rebuilt his body, trained smarter, and removed the barriers holding him back.
Where it began
“I want to go as far as I can in HYROX, but my lower back is holding me back — can you help me?”
Liam, February 2025
My response was simple: “I sure can.” What followed became a journey built on trust, commitment and a willingness to do the work that actually supports long-term performance.
What is HYROX?
HYROX combines endurance running with functional strength in a race-style format. The demand isn’t just physical strength or cardiovascular fitness — it’s the ability to maintain control, efficiency and resilience under fatigue.
For many athletes, HYROX exposes weak links quickly. Lower back pain, hip discomfort and recurring niggles are common when training load increases faster than the body’s ability to absorb it.
Liam’s starting point
When Liam first came to Cadence, his lumbar spine was flared, his core control was inconsistent, and his base endurance didn’t yet match the level of training he wanted to pursue.
This combination is common in highly motivated athletes. The desire to train hard is there — the foundations just need time and structure to catch up.
The Cadence approach
My background in endurance running, combined with Liam’s willingness to fully commit, allowed us to focus on one key principle: train hard, but train smart.
Weekly physical management, progressive rehab, and structured recovery meant we could keep building capacity while staying ahead of flare-ups — rather than reacting to breakdowns.
Liam’s progression this year is a testament to his willingness to do the extra rehab session, spend the extra time in recovery, and stay committed while still finding joy in the process.

This story isn’t just for elite athletes
While Liam competes at a high level, the principles behind his progress apply to anyone training towards a goal. HYROX-style training is motivating, structured and community-driven — but it rewards patience and consistency.
Whether you’re preparing for an event, improving your running, or building strength over summer, the biggest wins come from training in a way your body can sustain.
Looking ahead
I’m incredibly proud of Liam and his HYROX partner Aaron for everything they’ve achieved this year, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead in 2026.
This is just the beginning.
